It’s really a charming apartment thanks to many aspects; the first one is its location: in fact it is close to Montestella Park, the only “hill” in Milan (90 m.), rich in green areas, paths, routes for mountain bikes and sport facilities. It’s an accommodation of character, placed at Dergano, a district of North Milan. At a walking  distance you can take the yellow metro line and  reach Piazza  Duomo in only 10 minutes. In the adjoining Bovisa’s area is situated the Politecnico, one of the most important universities worldwide. Dergano is quickly growing; in spite of that it is mainaining the features of  the old times, when it was a village in the outskirts of Milan: here you can still find some workshops,  many retailers, genuine typical resturants - trattorie -, a small park where people meet themselves. “It seems strange that we are in Milan”, this is the exclamation of most guests. We are in one of the most authentic and lively areas in Milan, placed all around Via Padova, once a main street connecting the city with the outskirts and the regions in the Nord – East Italy. Here you can still breathe the atmosphere of an old typical Milanese district with the small food and workshops, the characteristic trattorie (typical local restaurants) and the inhabitants exchanging a few words on the road. To this so genuine world now belong also ethnic shops and restaurants adding a further note of colour. Moreover we have to remember the Naviglio della Martesana still flows close to it; it is an historic canal navigable since the Sforzas’ Seigniors.
L’Atelier is a nice small 3-storey villa Bed & Breakfast situated in Via Arici, a side road of Via Padova. The bus 56 connects it with the underground-red line in Piazzale Loreto or people can  walk to the underground-green line (Cimiano station) and reach to Piazzale Loreto. The owners of this Bed & Breakfast, two kind ladies, are very skilful in artistic activities, for instance they create stained-glass windows and restore furniture. During the period after the last war S.S.G. was one of the most important textile and steel industrial centres of North Italy. Since many years the picture of smokes, factories and tired workers walking in the streets is over and now Sesto is one of the most developing area of Milano  even  if  its sites of industrial archaeology are so important and numerous that it is canditate for the World Heritage. Chalet Les Trembles is at 1000 m. of altitude with a superb view on the Rodano Valley in the French Switzerland Wallis region. It is placed in a small secluded valley in a very calm spot.
Wallis is easy to reach from Northern Europe and from neighbour Italy by Simplon and Grand San Bernardo passes. The Cisalpino train connects Milan with Sion in almost 2 hours only.

ALONG THE HISTORICAL MILANESE CANALS

This is a pleasant tour by bicycle flanking Villoresi Canal and the Naviglio Grande that will give you the opportunity to make exercise and enjoy a peaceful panorama. Small villages and enchanting old villas will pass in front of your eyes. The length of the tour is 80 km. Starting from Corso Sempione in the city centre. Pedal along road 33 passing through Rho and reach Nerviano. Here you follow road signs for Parabiago and Busto Garolfo, meeting Villoresi Canal. Keeping alongside the canal, you will cross Buscate and arrive at Castano Primo, where there is Villa Nuno de Portugal, originally built in 18th century. South Castano follow the road signs for Cuggiono, with its Villa Clerici, join up with the Naviglio Grande in Boffalora. Continue as far as Robecco, a traditional country resort for Milanese Nobles. Here we suggest you to take a look at Villa Gromo di Ternengo, built in the 17th century and visit (by appointment) Villa Gaia, originally built in the 15th century with beautiful frescoes inside. Following the Naviglio Grande you soon arrive at Cassinetta di Lugagnano, another favourite country home of 18th century good Lombard families. The place is magic with its no time atmosphere. Here you can also find one of the most refined restaurant of the region (a bit expensive). On your side of the Navigli you can find Villa Nai, Villa Krentzlin and Villa Visconti-Maineri all dated 18th century, crossing the bridge you reach, along Via Roma, the neoclassic Villa Morlin-Visconti and the 18th century Villa Trivulzio, in the nearby Via Diaz is Villa Monzini. After Cassinetta, you continue along the Naviglio Grande, which makes an eastward turn towards Gaggiano and then Trezzano sul Naviglio. You are now close to Milan: in some 10 kms. you will get back in the central Navigli area. Along this track visitors will find a lot of trattorie and restaurants serving typical food.

The natural Park of Ticino river is a marvellous wildlife reserve, where people fond of flora and fauna can relax walking, cycling, riding or driving in a carriage along the paths. It’s the widest fluvial park in Europe, unique for its environmental heritage. There are several easy itineraries suitable to bikers. Northern itineraries along the calm canals allow bikers to cross history and discover the life of the Milanese country, through the patrician summer residences of the XVIII century, the sluices system for water use, the natural springs in the fields and the water meadows. On the contrary in the southern area it will be pleasant to cover a multitude of tracks penetrating into the woods, which are the most characteristic habitat of the park. Behind the foliage the crystal clear waters of Ticino flow quietly, it is one of the cleanest rivers in Italy. All around the marshlands are rich in vegetable and animal life. We also mention the artistic and historical treasures of the Park, such as the Abbey in Morimondo, the villas on Naviglio Grande, the castle of the Visconti family in Abbiategrasso.The local cuisine is excellent and you can appreciate it in several local trattorie (typical restaurants), such as Da Angelo Trattoria del Priore in Morimondo.

A LEONARDO PROJECT

Naviglio Martesana is an historical waterway since the Sforzas’ age once linking Milan city centre with Adda river (North). According to many historians Leonardo da Vinci improved its navigability on behalf of Ludovico il Moro, the Duke of Milan. During the Renaissance period Milan became the most beautiful city in Europe. You can still visit the sluices planned by Leonardo at the end of Via San Marco where Naviglio Martesana joined with Cerchia Dei Navigli, the circle of navigable canals surrounding the city, now mostly covered. Please note in this area there isn’t any cycling track but you have to plung into the daily traffic. Anyway a very nice section of Naviglio Martesana has survived inside the city starting from via Melchiorre Gioia; the cycling track run as well along the canal with its vegetable gardens, the old factories, some tiny trattorie – typical local restaurants – and a lot of ducks families swimming into the clear water.We suggest a classic itinerary starting at Cologno Monzese at Milan’s border. It’s 23 Km long but it is not hard. Bikers will cross the territories of different Communes, such as Cernusco sul Naviglio, and Cassano d’Adda. In Cernusco the fascinating Villa Alari Visconti dating the beginning of XVIII century, just overlooks the Martesana. In the past the villa had its own pier on the canal. In Cassano d’Adda people will admire the wonderful Castello Borromeo, an imposing castle on a spur rising sheer from Adda river, and the theatrical Villa Borromeo built in Neoclassical style by the architect Piermarini.

HOUSED in Palazzo Bagatti Valsecchi, in the heart of Milan, is one of the finest museum-homes in Europe. It is now a private foundation, set up by the Bagatti Valsecchi heirs to open the family’s late 19th century residence and collections of artworks to the public.

IN 1883 the brothers Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi, of noble descent, inaugurated the new façade of their palazzo, tucked between Via Santo Spirito and Via Gesù, in the centre of Milan. Their plan to turn it into a home inspired by the dwelling-places of the 16th century Lombard aristocracy had thus come to fruition. And in keeping with their intent, the house was furnished with Renaissance artefacts.

EVERY ROOM was embellished with beautifully made household items, finest-quality furnishings and works of art. But the interiors were conceived first and foremost as a place to live in, and the age-old domestic objects accumulated by these two zealous collectors were in fact put into normal everyday use.

THE MUSEUM is also a centre for research, organizing courses, seminars, conferences. Its publications focus on various facets of 19th century culture.

Porta Venezia is one of the most lively and interesting districts in the city centre, thanks to its marvellous Art Nouveau buildings, the elegant boutiques and craftsmen’ shops, the excellent restaurants and bars; among them we mention the bar of aristocratic Hotel Diana facing the famous inner garden and Le tre Marie, named after the old and refined confectionary firm. Porta Venezia is a strategic point both for quality shopping and business: it is situated next to Corso Buenos Aires, one of the most important shopping streets in Milan, and Corso Venezia, an avenue of the historical centre, but it is also near the red metro line leading to Piazza San Babila (only two stops), to Fieramilano city (in a few minutes) and directly inside Fieramilano in Rho. B&B Mulino Tremogge is located at Castelmaggiore, a small village in Tuscany on the hills between the sea and the Pisan Mountains, in the hearth of Graziosa Valley. B&B Tremogge is only at few kilometres from the art city of Pisa and the seaside. From here you can rapidly reach most of the famous sites of Tuscany and Italy.
The building, recently renovated, is a former watermill dating back to 1650. Alongside the garden, behind the house, flows a mountain stream. In the old times this stream provided the energy to make the millwheel and millstones work. Trekkers and bikers will enjoy the numerous trails, mule tracks and carrareccie leading from the B&B to many points of naturalistic, historical and artistic interest. At a walking distance you’ll find the renowned Trattoria da Odo (typical local restaurant), famous for its Tuscan cuisine.
The inner staircase, made of pietra serena, leads to the upper floors and rooms. Some structural elements from the 17th Century still remain in the present building, such as the terracotta floors.
Each room is fully equipped with wooden furniture. Most of the pieces are of the beginning of the 20th Century. The bathroom is to be shared, the kitchen and the living room are also at guests’ disposal. In the bright and large living there is a satellite TV. on request Breakfast is based on typical local products. The Gulf of La Spezia is one of the most wide and deep inlets of the whole Tyrrenian coast. It is encircled by two promontories and delimited by an amphitheatre of hills and mountains. This region is quite a link area between the Liguria of Five Lands and The Tuscany territories of Lunigiana and Versilia. The coasts are mainly high and jagged, with imposing rocky spurs that separate the calm bays, well protected against the wind. For over 2,000 years, the beauty of these places has been sung by the words of poets and writers and has been portrayed by the works of painters and artists who were attracted by the nature which was wild but at the same time friendly to this gulf, impressed by the light sea breeze, by the winding hills or by the harsh rocks steepy overlooking the sea. The name Golfo dei Poeti (Gulf of the poets) was born in this way, thanks to the famous people that have lived the atmospheres of this landscape, silent and romantic blended with the most intimate feelings of the soul.

Lerici is situated in the eastern part of the Gulf of La Spezia, in one of the most enchanting inlets of the whole coast. The village is surrounded by green hilly olive groves, offers its visitors two different features: the antique part that is dominated by the majestic castle embrace the characteristic port, and the modern part where the many hotels, restaurants, bars and typical shops may be found among the luxuriant gardens and rich villas. Because Lerici’s history is lost in the night of time, we don’t know precisely the year of its foundation, but its ancient name “portus iliycis” that might derive from the Greek “Iliakos” (of Ilium, Trojan), inspires us to fantasise that its foundation derives from a group of refugees of the Trojan war. Lerici was particularly bonded to the Etruscan world as well for its vicinity to Luni.
Even nowadays, tourists can admire the original configuration of medieval Lerici that offers its characteristic houses lines along the tortuous streets called “carruggi”. Upon reaching the Calata, many are the places that deserve exceptional interests: the Jew’s ghetto, a consistent commercial settlement that originates from Leghorn, Revellino Street, the castle defensive walls, the “Arpara” slope, whose name derives from late medieval name meaning “place where the sea hawks make their nests”, Vico de’ Pisani, Poggio and San Giorgio Square, just in front of the entrance of the castle. Here is located the Geopaelentologic Museum, recently renovated with many interesting founds.
Lerici is an ideal starting point for a lot of relaxing walking and interesting excursions in the surrounding territory: to the fisherman’s villages of San Terenzio, Tellaro and Fiascherino where lived some famous writers as Mary and Percy Shelley, Sem Benelli, D.H. Lawrence and others. Above Lerici is Barcola with beautiful villas and enchanting gardens, And then you can join La Serra and take a path that offers beautiful panoramic views and leads you through woods and pine groves as far as Montemarcello. From here you can walk down towards Ameglia and the Magra estuary. You can either leave Porto Venere by boat to visit the island of Palmaria, a marine reserve lying in the centre of the “whale sanctuary” and Tino, a tiny island with the ruins of the Monastry of San Venerio. This jewel is occupied by a naval garrison but can be visited in September during the San Venerio festival. Some kilometres off you can reach the city of Sarzana, rich in historic monuments but also in elegant shops and up-to-date bars and restaurants.
The climate of Lerici makes a pleasant place to stay all year round. Beautiful beaches and coastal rocks at easy reach as those of Punta Bianca (White Cape) or Punta Corvo (the Raven Cape) so called because of its black sand. You can find typical shops, bars and restaurants as well as a pharmacy, a doctor cabinet, supermarkets. The well equipped marina gives hospitality to a lot of sport boats. Cannigione is considered in fact a very nice seaside resort thanks to its wonderful beaches for ever taste and as starting point for exciting excursions to the islands of Maddalena, Caprera, Spargi, Budelli etc. The most famous and trendy places in Costa Smeralda for nightlife are at easy reach.
