GREEN HOSPITALITY

Tourists have been paying increasing attention to the environment, and this has entailed a growing demand. For this reason, tourism undertakings, in particular small and medium-sized companies, must assess attentively the quality criteria they have to adopt.
GREEN STYLE, GREEN HOSPITALITY and ECOLABEL are now much used words.
Ecolabel is the certification of quality environmental conformity for goods and services recognised by the countries of the European Union and by Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and others in the world.
The promise of GREEN HOSPITALITY concept is wide and can includes different assets and best practises: from bioclimatic architecture to ecolabelled indoor paint, vernish and detergents to water-saving…
In Milano and its province, one of the most industrialized area of the country, not environment oriented, we do not have Ecolabelled accommodation yet but, we can now begin talking about GREEN HOSPITALITY among our network’s associated .
Of course a few accommodation can be full GREEN, others almost greenish.

We sent Friendly Home Members a questionnaire to check and evaluate their green quotient and award the winners with our symbol
Friend of the environment

  1. Is your house built according to Bioclimatic architecture?
  2. Did you use ecolabelled or non-toxic indoor paint and varnish?
  3. Do you use natural fibres linen only?
  4. Do you use ecolabelled or biodegradable detergents?
  5. Do you use ecolabelled toilet paper?
  6. Do you use food from local and organic farming? (Only for B&Bs).
  7. Do not use disposable bottles, toiletries, cups, plates and cutlery?
  8. Do you use organic fertilizer for your plants?
  9. Do you make waste separation?
  10. Do you put appropriate disposal of waste separation in the guestrooms and bathrooms.
  11. Do you inform and advice your guests about: way to save water and energy, how to separate waste, etc. .
  12. Do you inform and advice your guests about environmental measurews taken at the accommodation?
  13. Do you practice energy-saving throug:
    • Energy-efficient electrical equipment for heating and hot water supply.
    • Appropriate thermal and acustic insulation;
    • Energy-saving bulbs and lamps;
    • Automatic switch-off system (light, heating…);
    • Water-saving taps and showers;
    • Water-saving WC flush system;
    • No smoking areas;
    • Flexible change of towels and sheets.

    1. To switch-off lights when you leave the room/bath.
    2. To stop heating/air conditioning when you leave the room;
    3. To respect waste separation;
